Some Quick Questions About Facebook Pages

You probably have some questions that need answering before we start, so we’ll cover some of the most common ones.

What’s a Facebook Business Page?

A Facebook Business Page is a platform where you can manage your business and brand. You’re able to connect with customers by sharing relevant content, responding to inquiries, and nurturing customer relationships.

Are Facebook Business Pages Free?

Yes! Setting up a page is free and doesn’t cost.

Can You Set up a Facebook Business Page Without a Personal Profile?

Unfortunately, you’ll need a personal Facebook profile to create a business page. None of your personal information is used on your page but a personal account is still required.

Bonus Tip

It can be a good idea to separate your business and personal life so create a burner profile and use that to create any business pages you need.

Is a Facebook Business Page Worth It?

Yes! You can benefit having a Facebook Business Page if you use it correctly.

Setting Up Your Business Page

Now that your questions have been answered, where should you start?

Step 1 – Create Your Page

The first thing you need to do is to sign in to your personal (or burner) Facebook account.

Once you’re logged in, you can go to facebook.com/pages/create.

Click the ‘Pages’ link under the ‘Explore’ header and then click the green ‘Create Page’ button in the top right.

You should now be on the ‘Create a Page’ page where you can select either ‘Business or brand’ or ‘Community or public figure’.

As this is a guide on how to create a Facebook Business Page, we’re going to select the Business or brand ‘Get Started’ button.

Facebook create a business page.

You need to name your page and choose the appropriate category that bests describe your business.

In our example, we’re going to create a page for a barbershop. The name of our business will be ‘To The Edge Barbers’.

If the page name you’ve chosen is unavailable, try to select something that closely matches your business name. Consider a name that your audience is likely to search for when trying to find your business. For example, instead of ‘To The Edge Barbers’, we could have selected ‘To The Edge Barbershop’.

In the category box, begin typing the industry most closely related to yours. As you type, the box will expand and show you the available options. In our example, we select ‘Barber’s‘ as the category. Certain categories will need you to enter an address because Facebook assumes your business has a physical location.

If you don’t have an address yet, you can enter a temporary one and click the ‘Don’t show my address’ box. This will only show the town/city and region that your business is in.

Create a Facebook Business Page name.

Once you’re done, click the ‘Continue’ button.

Facebook will then give you the option to upload a profile picture and cover image. We prefer to skip these boxes and upload our photos from the main page.

Step 2 – Upload a Profile Picture and Cover Image

Good job! You’ve made it.

The next step is to customise your page by adding a profile picture and cover image.

You want your profile picture to be recognisable as it appears when people search for your business. It’s usually best to use your logo or a well-known image associated with your brand.

If you don’t have a logo, check out our logo design service and get in contact with us to see how we can help.

To upload your profile picture, hover over the circle in the top left (it should be an image of the first letter of your page’s name). Once you’re hovering, you’ll see the ‘update’ option. Click it!

Facebook will give you a few options to chose from. As this is your first time uploading a picture, click ‘upload photo’. A new window will open up and you will be able to search and select the picture you want to upload.

Another window will pop up which will allow you to add a description to your picture and reposition it if necessary. We’ll add the description ‘To The Edge Barbershop’s Logo’ to our picture.

Click save.

Bonus Tip

Check out Hootsuite’s post on social media image sizes if you find your profile picture is being cut-off in any way.

Next, hover over your cover image (the large rectangle at the top of your page). Click the ‘Change Cover’ button and then the ‘upload photo/video’ option.

Select the image you want to use.

You can then drag the image to reposition it. Once you’re happy, click save in the bottom left corner of the rectangle.

Bonus Tip

You can get creative with your cover image. Use it to promote your latest marketing campaign or as a way to detail the services you offer. If you’re feeling very creative, upload a video!

Be careful though! Cover images get cropped at the edges on mobile view. Just because you can see the full image on a larger screen doesn’t mean you’ll be able to see it on a smartphone.

Fantastic! You’re now ready to improve your page and add some information about your business.

Step 3 – Add Your Username

A username can make it super easy for someone to find you when searching.

Your username can be up to 50 characters long but try to keep it short, simple to type, and easy to remember.

To create your username, locate and click the ‘About’ header in the left-side navigation menu.

This will take you to your about page.

Under the general section, you will see your category, name of your page, and your username.

Click on ‘Create Page @username’.

Create a Facebook Business Page username.

A window will pop up which will let you write a username. If your desired username is unavailable, try to use something related to your business.

You could add ‘WeAre’ in front of your chosen username.

For example, if ‘To The Edge Barbers’ wasn’t available, we could use ‘WeAreToTheEdge’

When you’re done, a box will pop up showing you the links people can use to connect with your business on Facebook and Messenger.

Bonus Tip

Special characters, such as ‘-, _, !’ aren’t allowed in usernames.

Step 4 – Add Your Business Information

Facebook can often be the first place a customer or client goes to get information about your business. That is why it’s important to add your business details right away.

To begin, locate and click ‘Edit Page Info’ link in the top menu to the right. From this screen, you can edit and share as much information as you like.

Description

Use this space to write a short description (no more than 255 characters) that best describes your business.

Categories

This section will show the category you selected at the start of this guide. If you wish, you can add additional categories to ensure your Facebook Business Page is shown to all the right people.

Contact

List all your business contact details where possible. If you don’t have a website yet, check out our website design packages so you can get your business online.

More

The more section allows you to enter some extra information about your business. If relevant, enter your Impressum, price range, and privacy policy link.

Remember to click ‘Save Changes’ under each section when you’re finished.
