When it comes to designing websites or other graphic projects, font selection is one of the most important parts of the design process.
Using the right font can help convey a story, set a mood, or give designs the right personality. You want something that does all those things and is also readable and clear.
We’re always looking for unique fonts that help set our projects apart so in this blog post we list our top 5 favourite Google fonts in 2020.
If you’re looking for some design inspiration read on.
Like a lot of things in design, fonts are subjective. Just because we like something doesn’t mean you have to.
The opposite is true too!
If you like a certain font and want to use it, try it out! Get feedback from people to see if your font works for you and your website.
Don’t be afraid to try something new and experiment.
Remember, fonts can always be changed!

Nunito
Of course, we have to start with Nunito!
This is the font we use on hellooodesign.com and we love it.
Nunito was created by Vernon Adams and is a well balanced Google font that is a highly readable sans-serif typeface.
The characters have thin, uniform stroke widths that work well for both body and display copy.
The font is available in Light, Light Italic, Regular, Regular Italic, Semi-Bold, Semi-Bold Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Black, Black Italic, Extra-Bold, and Extra-Bold Italic.

Poppins
Poppins is a geometric sans-serif typeface published by Indian Type Foundry in 2014.
It’s simple but perfect. It looks amazing as a heading font and when used as body text.
You can check out how we’ve used it in our designs on our Behance profile.
It was released as open-source and is available for free on Google Fonts.
Indian Type Foundry describes Poppins as ‘an internationalist take on the geometric sans genre’.
It supports both Latin and Devanagari languages and is available in nine weights with matching italics.

Bebas Neue
Bebas Neue is a free, condensed sans-serif typeface originally designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa.
We love its clean and bold typeface and its versatility across many design projects.
Bebas Neue is only available in uppercase, which limits its usefulness to headlines and display usage.
If you need a similar font in lowercase, Oswald is a great alternative.

Montserrat
Montserrat is an interesting font.
It’s a geometric sans-serif typeface and is very recognisable and widely used on the web.
It was designed by Julieta Ulanovsky who got the inspiration for the font from the urban, hand-drawn lettering on old posters and signs in the neighbourhood where she lives, Montserrat.
It’s similar to the font Futura but less formal, and its relevancy is still strong and will continue to appeal and be relevant for years to come.

Anton
Anton is another font created by Vernon Adams (the person who designed Nunito).
The font is a reworking of many traditional advertising sans-serif typefaces and delivers a bold message.
Its impactful style makes it great for advertising headers where you want your message to be seen.
